I am really doing well! I absolutely love my new job as the Business Administrator and Director of Finance for a local chain of bakeries. The people are wonderful and it's social and I'm using my cleverness every second. It has been a brilliant move for me and each day I look forward to coming in. We also recently hired my friend cutieyum on register and pie crust duty and it's going to be fun to see her each day.

I've landed several fun acting parts in movies and radio shows, and I sure will be posting links to y'all when I know when they can be seen! First off there is this awesome live production of old school radio dramas for Halloween called Tomes of Terror where you can see 1940's radio drama done live by actors and old school foley teams on stage, it's going to be so fun! I'm in the first act, the little comedy piece of the 1946 Baby Snooks Show Halloween Special.

Cheers, LJ.

I'm taking a motorcycle safety course next month to get my motorcycle license (although you don't need one for the Vespa technically, I may one day upgrade). If anyone has been thinking of doing this and wants to join me, let me know and I'll hit you with the details. It's $265 and in Hyde Park over the course of a weekend (Friday 6-11, Sat/Sun 12-5).

I took a brief jaunt to Northern Maine to surprise my sister over the weekend. She was definitely surprised and it was great to see her, but it meant about 10+ hours of travel time each way so it was a bit of a whirlwind.

My last day at my current job is the 29th and I am so excited to start working for the bakery. I have no regrets at all. Work is going to be kind of hellish these next couple weeks but I'm so detached at this point that I can pretty much take it in stride.

I landed my first professional acting job yesterday on the webisodal series High Heel Samurai (Stop lol'ing).
OMG VESPA.
I love it so much! It really is something I look forward to at the start and end of each day, a little vrooooom. I've been car-free since about 2000 and it's really a novel thing to not spending so much time in my day waiting for the increasingly unreliable train/bus in Boston. The only scary part of my commute is Commonwealth Ave because people drive like jerks there, but traffic also moves incredibly slow so it's not terribly dangerous, just annoying.

I am so glad I did this.

Breaking News: My Job, I Quit It

After months of miscommunication and frustration, my job and I are parting ways. I have never quit a job after being there so briefly (only two years!) but it was time to go. I love the company and the people, and the compensation package is unparalleled, so it was a hard decision, but my boss (who is an accountant by day and a cop by night) becomes really hard to handle under pressure and I needed to let go.

Incredibly, the woman who owns the bakery next door to my house and whom I really adore, said OMG I NEED AN ACCOUNTANT when I told her I was on the outs, and has extended me a reasonable offer that should keep my head above water. It's comparable to my current package financially, although we will have to figure out things like vacation time and retirement since she has never had a professional employee (just her retail and kitchen staff).

I am very excited and looking forward to wrapping things up with the non-profit and moving on to new and exciting things. I feel confident about this decision and direction. Wish me luck!

On Life and Love

I had a wonderful opportunity to meet autumnsshadow's new primary partner the other night over dinner. Since I haven't talked about my love life here in quite some time I think I will give a synopsis, folks do tend to love that around these parts. Back in the early nineties when I was in junior high, I placed an ad for pen pals in a national magazine (using the handle "Glass Spider"), looking for sad little goth souls to write to. That's where I found Elijah initially. We wrote for some time, snailmail, and I fantasized about having a sexy out of town boyfriend and it kept me going in that small town thirteen-year-old way. We soon moved on to real life teenage experiences and stopped corresponding, but found one another on the internet about five years ago. We were thrilled to discover we were both living polyamorous lifestyles with primary significant others, and our worlds collided intensely and passionately for a few years. We traveled together and became close as one another's OSO's (other significant others). Over a year ago now, we stopped seeing so much of one another, primarily because I became distant as I fought my existential crises and depression and didn't have the energy to go out as much as I ought, and I'm embarrassed by how unresponsive I was during that time when he reached out to be supportive and supported. At any rate, we both spent time focusing on ourselves for a while and have only reconnected recently, which has been great. Since the time that his life has split from his primary partner of over a decade and fallen head over heels for a clever girl from Colarado, catalyticdragon. She's moving here to live with him in his new abode, and I was so excited to meet her the other night, and had high hopes that she would be awesome and I wouldn't worry about him and all. She's neato (phew!), and I'm excited to get to know her better once she moves into their new place next month. It is invigorating and inspirational to see people my own age still able to tap the intensity of New Relationship Energy and act so smitten and squiffy, and their adoration for one another was simply contagious and made me giggle and flutter a bit just being peripheral to it. It's really one of my favorite things about polyamory, to be able to share in that glow that comes from watching people fall for one another! I know he's going to spend most of his energy cultivating their connection in the months to come, but it seems there is plenty of room for me to still be present in some capacity, and that makes me happy. :)

In my home life it seems Mattalyst and I have been some sort of item for around seven years at this point, which is fucking crazy. We have had a lot of ups and downs in that time but he's my best friend in the world and he makes me laugh every day, even when we're both depressed and feeling crappy about work or our subpar social lives. I can't speak for him, but think if I had a funny little dog and he had a kitty, and if I could be a better roommate with the cleaning, etc., we might be the happiest we've ever been. I look forward to what happens next.

So I've actually gone ahead and joined a casting agency and I have my first audition in a couple weeks! The process is very exciting, and the classes I'm taking to broaden my scope of acting potential are going well, the prof says I have a knack for the voiceover work and I'm excelling at improving my potential in that market. My acting portfolio is online here. I elected to just list a handful of stage parts even though I have a lot more because, you know, who cares, and I don't want to do theater work right now anyway. At any rate I am so energized by the possibilities and so glad that I've taken the steps necessary to try to succeed at something I have always wanted to do.

I have lost 29lbs on Nutrisystem and I think I look great as well as feel fantastic, I'm getting close to the size my body should be to maximize comfort.

We're spending the holiday weekend in the White Mountains with cutieyum and geoogo and I hope to get some nice canoeing and chillax in.

Mattalyst and I renewed our lease on the apartment, so we're pausing our condo search until autumn since we don't want to get stuck in 9+ months of lease in the worst case scenario of landlord jerkishness. We just got an awesome new La-Z-Boy couch this week and it is super great, although M is dubious about my demand for microsuede - I love it, but he says it attracts grit and is sweaty, so foo. *I* think it's awesome.

I'm still coming in around 40 minutes though and I'm trying to up the pace. My Mattalyst got me a great heart rate monitor and GPS doodad that keeps track of how fast you're running and I think it's exactly what I need to continue improving. Hopefully this horrible weather (evil oven, srsly) will break soon so I can practice more before my next race.

My weight loss has plateu'd, and I'm a little bummed, but I knew the second twenty pounds would be harder than the first since I've been carrying it around a lot longer. I'd like it to have some aspect of financial or business administration, because I do quite enjoy being an accountant, but I am also a very good communicator and would love a role that incorporated eye contact, actual talking, and maybe public speaking of some sort since that's my favorite thing. I'm not willing to take a salary cut, so it would have to be in some way affiliated with my current skillset or I probably can't pull that off. I would really like to see a mid-career vocational counselor, but there are hundreds in Boston and I don't want to pick one at random - but I can't find any reviews online or anyone who has been to one! I am very welcoming at this point to any advice or musing on this, if you're so inclined.

Oh, I'm still kicking.

I've been putting a lot of energy into managing and promotion of my friends' band Polystar, whom I happen to think are super amazing, and I'm trying to get some circulation and distribution for their second album Possession (featuring Roger O'Donnell of The Cure, Psychedelic Furs, Thompson Twins!) and Boz Boorer (Morrissey's band!). If dark synth pop is your thing, check them out. A few tracks are streaming on Last.fm and their Myspace page is here, and album tracks can be purchased on CD Baby.

In health news, I've been put on some meds to help my insulin-resistant blah dee blahs and so far so good. Also I have lost nearly 25lbs on Nutrisystem since I started two months ago, and I am feeling great, the extra baggage was really impacting my energy and health in so many ways. That program is terrific, I get a kickback if anyone else is interested (fattie pyramid scheme ftw) so just let me know!

I got a wicked cute asymmetrical haircut, never you mind the horrible camphone pics:

I'll try to update more soon. It was a really open course with no shade so I got quite sick and had to stop several times all vomitous, but I still finished. The sun weakens my whole damn body and makes me very sick to my stomach so it's certainly difficult for me to do my runs in that kind of weather, but I'm still committing to one 5k each month for the rest of the season. I wish there was something I could do about this lame aspect of my health. Feh.

I'm still kicking. They're upping my crazy meds because I've had a few bouts of 'oh hi sidewalk you look like a napping place' inexplicably even though most of the time I'm all right. It's frustrating to dip down after being okay for six months or so. So more Lexapro and more Topamax. In the meantime the Adderall does a great job keeping me paying attention and reading and all that.

Nextly, the Nutrisystem is good stuff. I really like the food and it's quite easy. If anyone would like to join me in my Nutrisystem quest or has any questions about the program, we both get discounts if I recruit (fattie pyramid scheme ftw) so let me know. I haven't exercised this week so I plateau'd a bit but I am feeling fantastic physically because of how well rounded my nutritional balance is compared to usual.
</a>

School is painstakingly not over yet put I'm getting there. One more dog-forsaken 25 page paper to write and we'll get-r-done. I can't wait to have free time to run more. Oh I have another charity race on Saturday which will be fun, but I haven't been training well so I'm not expecting much, but I said I would do one official race a month, so I will!

A friend's cousin has been struggling to find a bone marrow donor, and it inspired me to become a donor myself. I received my doctors' pre-approval to join the registry as none of my health conditions would disqualify me from being able to save someone's life and I think that is awesome. I am not a match for my friend's cousin because I am not the same ethnic background, but I there may one day be someone of Mediterranean descent whose damn life I can save, and that would be worth a bit of surgery and recovery time on my couch. If it's something you might be interested in, check out marrow.org.

Today is my first day on the Nutrisystem pre-portioned meals program. I was pleased to see that they had added a vegetarian version of their program so I thought I would try it. I love having all my meals planned in advance. Is anyone else on Nutrisystem? If so, we can be little website buddies. Oh, what would this bullshit be without one of these, of course:

Lastly, I have been reading quite a bit and I really love Goodreads. It's a neat online community for tracking, reviewing, and recommending books to one another. So here is my plug to that and a link to how I've gotten started over there, although I haven't added much of substance yet:

<lj-embed id="9" />
